introducing turtl and our story

introducing turtl and our story

the turtl family

turtl began with a family holiday to Turkey where my wife and 12-month daughter Mila and I visited Turtle Beach in Dalyan. The rescue centre here shocked us. There were so many loggerhead and green turtles being treated for injuries by fishing hooks, nets, and plastic ingestion. I decided then and there to use my experience in the footwear industry to create a brand dedicated to fighting against plastics polluting our oceans and helping charities committed to protecting sea turtles.

a message from turtl founder

our first product

It was with this dedication, I began sourcing great materials to construct our debut product socks in a shell. We contacted some fantastic suppliers who are market leaders turning waste materials into quality, functional textiles and rubbers. Materials we could use for our products. This search led us to both Repreve® and Bloom.

We knew we couldn't stop with just making a great planet-friendly product. We’ve extended our eco-friendly attitude to our packaging, office processes and in our everyday lives.

Whilst we want our brand to be as environmentally friendly as we can be, we didn’t want to compromise on the integrity of the product. We don’t feel we’ve made a product just because we can. Our first product, socks in a shell, was developed to solve a problem. I could not find footwear for my daughter which was easy to put on, stay on. We needed a pair of shoes that were versatile and flexible. Something that could be worn both inside and outside. Being here in the UK, splash-proof qualities were essential. Myself and the turtl team have developed exactly that; they’re easy to care for and slip-resistant for peace of mind. My daughter Mila, has tested our prototype pair. She loved them so much, she cried when we tried to take them off her.

giving back

Coming back to the original inspiration, I wanted to do just that. Give back to the cause. By making a conscious product, we are able to generate a profit which we'll use in two main ways.

Charity donations from Turtl
source: Greenpeace UK

The first is to re-invest in more environmentally friendly products which will be made with the same values. The second is to donate a percentage of these profits to charities that help clean up our oceans and generally make the world we live in a better place. Find out about our chosen charities here
